Fullback Will Tukuafu went out early in Sunday’s NFC Divisional Playoff against the Carolina Panthers. He started but played just three snaps before going out with an injury to his left knee after making a two-yard reception in the first quarter.
Anthony Dixon handled most of the snaps at fullback the rest of the way, with tight end Vance McDonald also lining up frequently in the backfield.
The 49ers have been thin at the position since starter Bruce Miller injured his shoulder in a win at Tampa Bay on Dec. 15.
The reception was Tukuafu’s first as a pro. Originally signed as a defensive tackle, Tukuafu began taking snaps at fullback in 2012 and was re-signed after Miller’s injury.
“Encouraged with how he’s moving around,” coach Jim Harbaugh told CSNBayArea.com of Tukuafu’s status on Monday.
