With at least two NFL teams, the Minnesota Vikings and Washington Redskins, reportedly already seeking permission to speak to San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman about their vacant head coaching positions, he has already talked to officials at Penn State about their head coaching job, according to a report.
CBSSports.com’s Bruce Feldman reported via Twitter on Wednesday:

Feldman had reported Monday that Vanderbilt coach James Franklin appeared to be the front-runner for the Nittany Lions post, but another report by CBSSports.com’s Jeremy Fowler on Tuesday quoted Vanderbilt athletic director David Williams saying that he “expect[s] James to be our football coach” going forward.
Roman is a New Jersey native and was Jim Harbaugh’s offensive coordinator at Stanford for current 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh in 2009-10.
He has never been a head coach at any level, but has coached in the NFL from 1995-07 and again since 2011.
