With an incredible pick-6 in the San Francisco 49ers, Atlanta Falcons game, NaVorro Bowman has been selected as the NFC defensive player of the month, and it may be followed by defensive player of the year. Bowman also added a nice interception against the Arizona Cardinals as well as forced fumble in order to ensure that the Niners locked up the 5th seed over the New Orleans Saints.

In an interview with ESPN, Bowman sheds some light on his opinion about the DPOY award.

“I think the key to any good player is to keep improving,” he said. “My tackle numbers are up and I just continue to try to help this team.”

Bowman is certainly one of the best defensive players in the NFL, and should be strongly considered to win the award for the year. Randall Liu, NFL’s director of coordination, tweeted about Bowman’s outstanding play so far.

.@49ers NaVorro Bowman had 3 sacks, 2 INT, INT-TD, 2 FF & FR in December. No other @NFL player did that over course of entire SEASON

If anyone deserves to win this award, there is no clear candidate yet. Bowman, however, has improved over the years and is doing very well. He should be a favorite for this award, but the competition is tough.
