It’s New Year’s Eve and Bay Area sports fans will have a little something in the afternoon and early evening to chew on before the real revelry begins at, oh, around 3 a.m. Eastern time.
The Golden State Warriors have a New Year’s Eve afternoon game (at least, it’s afternoon on the West Coast) and the San Jose Sharks play the back end of their home-and-home series with Anaheim in the evening.
NBA: Golden State Warriors at Orlando Magic, 2 p.m.
The Warriors haven’t had a lot of luck in the Magic Kingdom, going just 6-17 all-time and losing their last four games in Orlando, including a 99-85 loss on Dec. 14, 2012. Golden State’s last win at Orlando came on March 8, 2008, when they topped the Magic 104-95, and the Dubs are 0-2 in the Magic’s new home at the Amway Center. The Warriors come in with five straight wins, including an overtime win in Cleveland on Sunday night to start off their seven-game Eastern swing, while Orlando has won back-to-back games.
NHL: San Jose Sharks at Anaheim Ducks, 5 p.m.
The first of two meetings at the Honda Center between the Pacific Division rivals is also the back end of a back-to-back between the Sharks and Ducks. San Jose won the opener 3-1 on Sunday at the SAP Center, but they were just 1-2 in Anaheim last season. The Sharks head south with four straight wins while the Ducks had a 10-game winning streak snapped on Sunday.
