The Sacramento State Hornets shot just 25 percent in the second half and went scoreless for more than seven minutes as the Cal State Fullerton Titans came from behind for a 59-51 win Saturday afternoon at Titan Gym in Fullerton.
The Hornets (3-5) led 29-21 at intermission, but made just 7-of-28 shots after halftime and were outscored 7-0 during a key seven-minute stretch as the Titans (5-7) extended their lead from 40-39 to 47-39 with just 4:16 to go.
Sacramento State closed the gap to three at 54-51 when Dylan Garrity canned a 3-pointer with 1:10 remaining, but Fullerton made 5-of-8 from the foul line in the final 53 seconds while the Hornets missed all four of their shots.
Alex Harris scored 12 points and had seven rebounds and four assists for the Titans and Michael Williams had 10 points.
Mikh McKinney led Sacramento State with 16 points and had three assists. Garrity added 12 points, Nick Hornsby grabbed six rebounds and Zach Mills also handed out three dimes.
Cal State Fullerton was 19-for-45 (42.2 percent) overall, 6-for-17 (35.3 percent) from deep and 15-for-26 (57.7 percent) at the foul line. The Titans outrebounded the Hornets 41-29.
Sacramento State was 19-for-55 (34.5 percent), 9-for-23 (39.1 percent) and 4-for-4. The Hornets won the turnover battle 14-11.
