Stanford Routs UC Davis In Return From Finals Break

The Stanford Cardinal scored the first eight points of the game and led 22-5 midway through the first half en route to an 83-56 pasting of the UC Davis Aggies at Maples Pavilion Saturday night.

The Cardinal (7-2) hadn’t played since beating South Dakota State on Dec. 1, but showed very little signs of rust against the Aggies (3-8), who lost their sixth straight game.

Stanford led 40-23 at halftime.

Chasson Randle paced the Cardinal with 16 points, while Dwight Powell, Josh Huestis and Anthony Brown scored 15 points apiece. Powell led Stanford with 10 rebounds, six assists and two steals and Huestis had four blocked shots.

Georgi Funtarov scored 13 points to lead UC Davis and Brynton Lemar had 11 points and four assists. Corey Hawkins grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Aggies.

UC Davis was 20-for-58 (34.5 percent) from the floor, 7-for-20 (35 percent) from 3-point range and 9-for-12 (75 percent) from the foul line.

Stanford checked in with 31-for-53 (58.5 percent), 11-for-20 (55 percent) and 10-for-18 (55.6 percent) and won the rebounding battle 35-32.

Both teams are back in action on Wednesday. The Cardinal visit No. 9 Connecticut (9-0) for a 6 p.m. Pacific tipoff while the Aggies are at San Jose State (3-6) for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
