The Cal Golden Bears scored the first eight points of the game and never trailed en route to a 67-56 win over the Fresno State Bulldogs at Haas Pavilion Saturday afternoon.
Richard Solomon had 17 points, 14 rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots for the Golden Bears (8-3), who held the Bulldogs (6-5) to just 32.8 shooting in the game and outrebounded the visitors 47-34.
Cal led by as many as 12 points in the first half before settling for a 28-21 lead at the break. Fresno State made an early run in the second half, closing to within three points at 30-27 less than two minutes after intermission, but the Golden Bears never allowed the lead to get smaller than that.
Justin Cobbs had 13 points for the Bears, Tyrone Wallace added 12 points, five assists and two blocked shots and Ricky Kreklow had 11 points. David Kravish chipped in with 12 rebounds and two blocks.
Marvelle Harris scored 13 points to lead Fresno State. Tyler Johnson scored 12 and Cezar Guerrero finished with 10 points and four steals. Alex Davis led the Bulldogs with eight boards, Paul Watson and Allen Huddleston notched two assists each and Karachi Edo blocked a pair of shots.
Cal was 26-for-61 (42.6 percent) overall, 4-for-19 (21.1 percent) from 3-point range and 11-for-17 (64.7 percent) from the foul line.
Fresno State was 19-for-58 (32.8 percent), 4-for-16 (25 percent) and 14-for-23 (60.9 percent).
The Golden Bears are now 7-0 at Haas Pavilion this season, but will head on the road to visit Creighton (7-2) at CenturyLink Center Omaha on Sunday, Dec. 22, for a 4 p.m. Pacific tipoff.
