Miami Dolphins Sign S Michael Thomas Off San Francisco 49ers Practice Squad

The Miami Dolphins have signed safety Michael Thomas off the San Francisco 49ers practice squad, according to a report.

Pro Football Talk reported Tuesday afternoon that the signing has taken place, with Thomas and former Bills cornerback Justin Rogers signed to take the roster spots of cornerbacks Dimitri Patterson and R.J. Stanford, who were both placed on injured reserve.

Thomas can also play the nickel cornerback. He was an undrafted free agent out of Stanford in 2012 and spent last year and all of this season on the practice squad in San Francisco.

The 49ers, according to the Sacramento Bee, had recently increased Thomas’ pay last month when other teams started to inquire about him.

It’s not uncommon for playoff contenders to poach the practice squads of other teams looking for depth down the stretch and that appears to be what the Dolphins, who at 7-6 have the same record as current AFC No. 6 seed Baltimore, have done here.

CSN Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco reported via Twitter that the 49ers have made some other personnel moves:
