Safety Usama Young’s season with the Oakland Raiders came to an end on Saturday as he was placed on injured reserve with a neck injury.

Linebacker Kaluka Maiava was also placed on IR with a calf injury and defensive lineman Brian Sanford was waived in a flurry of roster moves for the Raiders before Sunday’s game in New Jersey against the New York Jets, according to a release on the team’s official website.

Added from the practice squad were cornerback Chance Casey, safety Shelton Johnson and linebacker Marshall McFadden.

Young was in his first year with the Raiders and had started one of the team’s 12 games. He had one interception, three passes defensed and a fumble recovery while making 20 tackles. Young spent the last two years with the Cleveland Browns and played for the New Orleans Saints from 2007-10 after he was a third-round choice out of Kent State in 2007 by New Orleans. Young was signed as a free agent in April.

Maiava had started one game and played in nine for Oakland this year and had 16 tackles. He was signed as a free agent in March after playing for the Browns from 2009-12. Cleveland selected Maiava in the fourth round out of Southern California in 2009.

Sanford had seven tackles in six games and one start at defensive end for the Raiders. He was claimed off waivers from Cleveland in September. He was waived Oct. 26, resigned Oct. 30, released again Nov. 9, re-signed Nov. 13, released Nov. 16 and re-signed on Nov. 20 before his most recent release.

Sanford was originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Temple in 2010 by the Browns.

Casey was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Baylor this spring and was signed to the practice squad after he was cut at the end of the preseason, while Johnson was an undrafted free agent out of Wisconsin who made the practice squad after the preseason cuts.

McFadden was active for one game with the Pittsburgh Steelers last season. He went undrafted out of South Carolina State in 2008 and finally landed in the NFL with the Steelers in January 2012, eventually making Pittsburgh’s practice squad before being activated for one game in November. He signed with the Raiders’ practice squad in September.
