It’s kind of a big deal.
When the Sacramento State Hornets host UC Irvine on Saturday night at The Nest, they will be visited by the tallest player in college basketball this year. (h/t Sacramento Bee)
Mamadou Ndiaye, a 7-foot-6 freshman from Senegal, has 26 blocked shots in seven games for the Anteaters this season and scored 18 points, had nine blocks and grabbed eight rebounds when UC Irvine stunned Washington in Seattle Nov. 14.
He’s one of three 7-footers on the Anteater roster this year, joining 7-foot-2 freshman Ioannis Dimakopoulos and 7-foot sophomore Conor Clifford, although Clifford is sitting out this season as a redshirt.
The game is also a homecoming for UC Irvine junior Will Davis II, who leads the Anteaters in scoring and rebounding at 13 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Davis was a prep standout at Sacramento High.
UC Irvine is 4-3 this season, while the Hornets come in fresh off their Causeway Cup win at UC Davis Tuesday night and are 2-2.
