The Stanford Cardinal ended their three-day trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, with their third victory in as many days, riding a 24-0 run to an 80-60 win over South Dakota State on Thursday.
The Jackrabbits (4-3) closed to within seven points on a jumper by Mariah Clarin with 8:29 left in the first half that made it 23-16.
Stanford (7-1) went on to score the final 17 points of the first half and the first seven of the second. By the time Megan Waytashek drained a 3-pointer for South Dakota State, they had been held scoreless for 13 ½ minutes and trailed 47-22.
Chiney Ogwumike paced the Cardinal with 29 points and 12 rebounds and also had three steals. Amber Orrange scored 13 points with five steals and Kailee Johnson had 10 points off the bench. Mikaela Ruef posted 12 rebounds and seven assists.
Waytashek led the Jackrabbits with 13 points and Megan Stuart scored 11. Dominated on the boards by Stanford 41-28, South Dakota State’s leading rebounders were Gabby Boever and Clarissa Ober with four each.
Stanford will now take a 16-day break, returning to action at Maples Pavilion on Saturday, Dec. 14, when they host No. 24 Gonzaga (3-1) for a 1 p.m. start.
