Rashanda Gray scored 15 points and the Cal Bears bounced back from a 75-72 loss at George Washington Friday night for a 67-52 win over the Georgetown Hoyas at McDonough Arena in Washington Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Bears (2-2), ranked 10th in the Associated Press poll, had a balanced attack against the Hoyas. Mercedes Jefflo had 14 points, Afure Jemerigbe added 13 points and Hind Ben Abdelkader came off the bench to score 10 points in 21 minutes.
Brittany Boyd also had a strong floor game for Cal, which led at halftime 34-24, with nine points, nine steals, six rebounds and six assists. The Golden Bears harassed Georgetown (1-2) into 28 turnovers.
The Bears still didn’t shoot particularly well, finishing 22-for-62 (35.5 percent), but they were able to hold off the Hoyas down the stretch with great free throw shooting, making 16-of-18 (88.9 percent) in the second half.
Natalie Butler led Georgetown with 16 points and 15 rebounds and Katie McCormick added 14 points.
Cal returns home next Sunday for a 3 p.m. tipoff with Northwestern (2-0).
