San Francisco 49ers vs. Jacksonville Jaguars: Live Game Thread

It’s the 5-2 San Francisco 49ers and the 0-7 Jacksonville Jaguars and, in contrast to the popular belief that the U.S. never exports anything, this game will be played at London’s Wembley Stadium.

Not that all is jolly in old England. ESPN.com’s Bill Williamson reported  the game could be played under brutal conditions. England is expecting to be hit by its worst storm this century on Monday and heavy rain and winds up to 70 mph could be the order Sunday night.

The game starts at 5 p.m. local time in London, so it’s possible the game will be done before the worst of the storm begins to blow in, but there is definitely potential for ugly weather.

That would seem to favor the team that runs well and that would be the 49ers. San Francisco is third in the NFL, averaging 143.3 yards per game on the ground, led by Frank Gore and augmented by the legs of quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

Inactives for the 49ers today include wide receiver Jonathan Baldwin, who is out for today with an illness, meaning Kyle Williams will be opposite Anquan Boldin. Other inactives include cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson, linebacker Jermaine Cunningham, running back LaMichael James and wide receiver Quinton Patton (still out with a bad foot).

Jacksonville’s inactives are wide receiver Stephen Burton (out with a concussion), cornerback Jamell Fleming, defensive end Abry Jones, quarterback Ricky Stanzi, and wide receiver Stephen Williams (Achilles).

So enjoy the game and watch along with us, let us know what you think about the action in the comments section below:

This game is looking like a video game…Gore in for the touchdown.

  • Aaron Candelaria

Harbaugh’s aggresiveness on 4th down pays off!

  • Phil Watson

7-0 49ers … could be an insurmountable deficit for that Jacksonville offense.

  • Robert Carter

Gore looking spry early… this could be one of those games, where Kap only throws the ball 10-15 times.

  • Phil Watson

So this first quarter isn’t going to make the “This Is How To Return Kickoffs” instructional video, I think.

  • Robert Carter

The Niners need to maintain push along the defensive line and make Jacksonville abandon run. The more that is put on Chad Henne will be great for the Niners

  • Phil Watson

So … we should read nothing into that Jaguars logo at midfield, right? Like it’s already their home field?

    • Robert Carter

If it was up to their owner, they would have moved already

      • Phil Watson

I don’t know … I like the hybrid approach. Name another professional sports franchise that is the worst team in their sport on two continents?

        • Robert Carter

Touche… good thing the NFL does not implement the EPL relegation/promotion system

  • Phil Watson

Sure hope those timeouts won’t be important … you know, like at the end of the half …

  • Robert Carter

I like Kap is now working his legs back into the game plan… that potential to take off and scramble is going to keep opposing secondaries sucked up close

    • Phil Watson

Or it will lead to touchdowns. Either one works.

      • Robert Carter

It just creates another option down in the Red Zone. The definitely need help in that area

  • Maggie Pilloton

    Kaepernicking in London!!!

  • Robert Carter

Does any team run the QB sweep better than the Niners?

  • Phil Watson

So for the Jaguars … it’s a bad sign that the punter is the team’s MVP, right?

    • Robert Carter

He is a guy with a local tie too… He played for Cal

      • Phil Watson

Yeah. Very good kicker, no disrespect to him. It’s just that Jacksonville is a dumpster fire.

        • Robert Carter

It is like the dark years for the Niners, when Andy Lee was the best player on the team

          • Phil Watson

Or the Shane Lechler era in Oakland, yeah. Hard to watch.

          • Robert Carter

yea… you would like to see some sustained drives… It is not like the Jags do not have some talent at the skill positions, but their offensive line and quarterback play are just awful

  • Phil Watson

And sometimes, you get the mismatch you expect. Kap to Vernon Davis and it’s about to be 21-0.

  • Maggie Pilloton

21-0 49ers with 11:52 minutes left in the second quarter. Thanks, Jacksonville.

  • Aaron Candelaria

Great stat by Fox showing that Vernon and Gore combined have almost twice as many TD’s (13) as Jacksonville’s whole offense. (7)

    • Robert Carter

At this point, the Niners defense might be close to Jacksonville in TDs

  • Phil Watson

Gotta say I’m not crazy about the “forget about covering the tight end” scheme Jacksonville is running on this drive. Not sure this one’s going to catch on.

  • Maggie Pilloton

How many times has a 49ers receiver, tight end, etc been wiiiiiide open in this game? I’ve lost count. This is embarrassing.

  • Phil Watson

Does the NFL have a running clock rule? No? Ah, well.

  • Aaron Candelaria

Great to see Kaep using his legs today, but PLEASE stop running now, since the 9ers are up 4 TD’s. Don’t need you getting hurt.

  • Maggie Pilloton

Another TD for Kap…28-0. Looks like the 49ers are playing a Pop Warner team.

  • Maggie Pilloton

Matt Maiocco of CSNBA brought up a good point. Greg Roman is pulling out all the stops against the Jags, the team that didn’t interview him for a head-coaching job last year.

    • Phil Watson

I saw that earlier, too. Revenge is a dish best served with a dominating run game, apparently.

  • Maggie Pilloton

The best part of Manningham and Crabtree coming back soon: less Kyle Williams.

    • Aaron Candelaria

I had hoped Williams would step up this season too. Unfortunately he hasn’t.

      • Maggie Pilloton

I wish Quinton Patton wasn’t injured. I’d like to see what he can do.

  • Phil Watson

Am I the only one who thinks this is the dumbest field goal try ever?

    • Robert Carter

Down 28… “Let’s not get shut out”

      • Phil Watson

Exactly. Let’s not try to make it a 3-score game again. Let’s just get something on the board.

  • Maggie Pilloton

    No shutout

  • Aaron Candelaria

Haven’t seen Eric Reid out there since he made that tackle downfield. Dahl has been in since.

    • Robert Carter

Reid is out there… Dahl is in for Whitner

      • Aaron Candelaria

        My bad.

  • Aaron Candelaria

Brock trying to pad his stats instead of sticking with his man and gets burned for it.

  • Maggie Pilloton

    Colt McCoy time.

  • Aaron Candelaria

Chad henne has looked impressive today.
