It’s the 5-2 San Francisco 49ers and the 0-7 Jacksonville Jaguars and, in contrast to the popular belief that the U.S. never exports anything, this game will be played at London’s Wembley Stadium.
Not that all is jolly in old England. ESPN.com’s Bill Williamson reported the game could be played under brutal conditions. England is expecting to be hit by its worst storm this century on Monday and heavy rain and winds up to 70 mph could be the order Sunday night.
The game starts at 5 p.m. local time in London, so it’s possible the game will be done before the worst of the storm begins to blow in, but there is definitely potential for ugly weather.
That would seem to favor the team that runs well and that would be the 49ers. San Francisco is third in the NFL, averaging 143.3 yards per game on the ground, led by Frank Gore and augmented by the legs of quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
Inactives for the 49ers today include wide receiver Jonathan Baldwin, who is out for today with an illness, meaning Kyle Williams will be opposite Anquan Boldin. Other inactives include cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson, linebacker Jermaine Cunningham, running back LaMichael James and wide receiver Quinton Patton (still out with a bad foot).
Jacksonville’s inactives are wide receiver Stephen Burton (out with a concussion), cornerback Jamell Fleming, defensive end Abry Jones, quarterback Ricky Stanzi, and wide receiver Stephen Williams (Achilles).
