According to a CSNBayArea.com team source, Dan Boyle will rejoin the San Jose Sharks Wednesday in Boston. He is expected to join the team for their Thursday morning skate. This will be the first time he takes the ice since he was knocked unconscious by Maxim Lapierre, who is in the midst of his five-game suspension for the hit.
Still, while Boyle is rejoining the team, he is not expecting to play Thursday night against the Boston Bruins. Either way, it is definitely a good sign that he has been cleared to join the team on the ice again. The fact he joined the team in the middle of a road trip means perhaps they think he will be available to play in a game or two. The Sharks play in Montreal on Saturday then head to Ottawa on Sunday for the tail end of a back-to-back.
Without Boyle the Sharks have not lost a beat thus far, but the fact that he will be back sooner rather than later is a great sign. His ability to quarterback the power play unit will be welcomed once he is back, as is his leadership and ability to move the puck.
So far this season Boyle has just one goal and one assist in six games played. He also has a plus-2 plus-minus rating for the Sharks this season. He was averaging 19:20 of ice time per game before his injury.
