The San Francisco 49ers needed to play a good game to beat a legitimate Tennessee Titans. Luckily for them, they did that and more.
San Francisco bested the Titans easily, winning on the road 31-17 in a game that really wasn’t ever close. Colin Kaepernick ran for a touchdown, and Frank Gore ran for two. A strong defense had no answer for the 49ers rushing attack.
Kassim Osgood also scored, picking up a muffed punt in the end zone.
Jake Locker padded his stats with some nice work late, but it wasn’t enough for the Titans. Tramaine Brock intercepted Locker in the second quarter, and while there were no more turnovers, the defense continued its hot run with a great performance.
Kaepernick wasn’t great, but he impressed with a solid, turnover-free game. He was able to find Anquan Boldin and Vernon Davis often, finishing the day with 199 passing yards and 9.5 yards per attempt.
He wasn’t amazing on Sunday. He didn’t have to be.
Gore wasn’t amazing either, but he scored two touchdowns with great goal-line running. Kaepernick ran for 64 yards on seven attempts, and Kendall Hunter picked up six on four carries.
Kendall Wright caught nine passes for 98 yards, and Chris Johnson picked up 110 total yards and a touchdown. However, it wasn’t enough, as the 49ers came out on top.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are next for the 5-2 49ers, which stayed within just one game of the first-place Seattle Seahawks. The 49ers needed a win to keep pace in the two-team race, and they came up big today.
