Oakland Athletics vs. Detroit Tigers ALDS Game 2 Lineups, Pitching Matchup

The Oakland Athletics will look to avenge their Game 1 loss against the Detroit Tigers with a win tonight to even up the ALDS at one game apiece.

It will definitely not be easy, as Justin Verlander will toe the rubber for the Tigers. Verlander beat the A’s twice in the ALDS last season, including a dominant Game 5 performance in the series-clinching game. After struggling early on in the season, Verlander may be peaking at the right time. He recorded a 2.27 ERA in September, but his final three regular season starts all resulted in losses for the Tigers.

Verlander will be opposed by Sonny Gray of the A’s. Gray, a rookie, will try to limit the Tigers’ offense while matching up to one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball. Gray was 5-3 with a 2.67 ERA during the regular season, but will he be ready for the big stage?

“I’m sure (Game 2) is going to be exciting and there will be adrenaline going,” he told the San Jose Mercury News. “Just to harness that and use it to my advantage is probably going to be the key to the game.”

Here are the lineups for tonight’s game, first pitch at 6:07 PST:
