One of the drawbacks of having an MLB and NFL team share a home stadium is that their schedules have to be adjusted in a way that there are no time conflicts.
Unfortunately, for the Oakland Athletics and Oakland Raiders, there is a conflict next Sunday thanks to the A’s earning a postseason berth. The A’s will play the Tigers in the ALDS, and here is their full schedule (courtesy MLB.com):
Game 2 on Saturday, Oct. 5 is in bold because that’s where the time conflict with the Raiders stems from. The Raiders were scheduled the Chargers at the Coliseum on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 1:25 PM, but that will not give the stadium crew enough time to transform the field from baseball to football.
Thus, the Raiders game will be moved to 8:35 PM. There is such a big gap between the two times because no game can start during the Sunday Night Football timeframe from 5:30 – 8:30. Coincidentally, the SNF game will feature the 49ers, who will take on the Texans across the bay at Candlestick Park, so traffic will likely be a mess on Sunday night.
The Raiders-Chargers game will be broadcast nationally on the NFL Network, and a local affiliate in the Bay Area will also pick up the game.
