Two arrests have been made after a man was fatally stabbed following the Giants-Dodgers game at AT&T Park on Wednesday night. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the victim has been identified as Jonathan Denver, and he was wearing Dodgers gear.
Denver, 24, was one of 10 people involved in a fight between two groups of men at about 11:30 pm last night, approximately 90 minutes after the game ended. One man had a knife, and another wielded a bat. The incident took place near Third and Harrison streets, a few blocks away from the ballpark. After being stabbed, Denver died at San Francisco General Hospital.
Police say that it is not clear whether the victim’s gear played a role in the attack, although the fight involved men wearing both Giants and Dodgers gear.
Because of the rivalry between the Giants and Dodgers, this is far from being the first incident of fan-on-fan violence during or after games. The most notable of these incidents took place in 2011, when Giants fan Bryan Stow was critically injured at Dodger Stadium after being attacked by two Dodgers fans. Stow is still recovering from the attack, and the Giants are holding a fundraiser for him this week during games on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
