Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen has announced that the team will be without starting left tackle Menelik Watson and tight end David Ausberry for their season opener against the Indianapolis Colts.
Watson took over as starter at the left tackle position after Jared Veldheer, who was the original starting left tackle for the Raiders, tore his tricep.
Watson, who was scheduled to start at left tackle, injured his knee in practice on Wednesday. He then missed practice on Thursday and Friday, which is when Dennis Allen made his decision.
To replace him, right tackle Khalil Barnes will move over to the left and recent signee Tony Pashos will move over to the right side of the line. Also, Matt McCants will be promoted from the practice squad to be a backup to both Barnes and Pashos. Those two were the only tackles left on the roster.
Ausberry, who won the starting job in training camp, injured his shoulder during the preseason. His replacement will most likely be Jeron Mastrud who is second on the depth chart.
Also, linebacker Sio Moore is listed as questionable and will be a game-time decision for this Sunday’s game. If he is unable to go Maluka Maiava would get the start.
