Oakland Raiders Cut Chris Kluwe, Going With Marquette King at Punter

From declining a White House invitation to tweeting about a wild car ride to making a joke about Aaron Hernandez on ConanChris Kluwe’s time with the Oakland Raiders was brief, but entertaining.

The Raiders cut ties with Kluwe on Sunday, going with the young Marquette King at punter. Kluwe, more or less, agreed with the move:

Kluwe and King have been competing with each other for the starting gig all offseason, and they are on opposites ends of the spectrum in their careers. Kluwe is a eight-year veteran, while King has yet to play in a regular season game. Kluwe has the experience, while King has a cannon for a leg.

But given the state of the Raiders’ franchise, which is very much in rebuilding mode, going with King and seeing what the youngster can do is a good move.

Longtime Raiders punter Shane Lechler departed in free agency, leaving some big shoes for the inexperienced King to fill.
