The San Francisco Giants need to upgrade their starting rotation in the offseason, and one fit may be Bronson Arroyo.
Arroyo, a 15-year veteran who has spent the past eight seasons with the Reds, will be a free agent, and had an interesting quote to tell Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports.
“I love San Francisco,” Arroyo said. “I love the whole vibe of the city. I love walking down the street and see a guy in a tuxedo, two guys holding hands and some girl with tattoos riding a skateboard. I love the eclecticness of the city.”
However, Arroyo made it clear that he would only leave Cincinnati if another team offered more money. He is in the final season of a two-year, $28 million contract.
The Giants could use a guy like Arroyo, a dependable starter who isn’t flashy, but consistent. He has logged at least 30 starts in his past eight seasons, and is on pace to eclipse that mark this season. He has also recorded double-digit wins in eight of his past 10 seasons, including this year, where he is 13-9 with a 3.42 ERA.
San Francisco will have some cash to spend in free agency, with the contracts of Tim Lincecum and Barry Zito coming off the books. So now that Arroyo has publicly stated his love for the city by the bay, it would definitely be worth taking a look at the veteran free agent this offseason.
