The San Francisco 49ers have placed safety Darcel McBath in the injured reserve list and have claimed linebacker Joe Holland off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to their website.
Darcel McBath has been placed on IR after suffering a foot injury during the 49ers’ preseason game against the Chiefs last Friday. He originally signed with the team last summer and appeared in every game for the 49ers last season. The loss of McBath is an underrated one because he has been one of the few bright spots for a special teams unit that has struggled as of late.
Linebacker Joe Holland has been claimed off of waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after they waived him yesterday. Holland had a brief stint with the 49ers last season and now gets a second shot. He was waived last year by San Francisco prior to the start of the regular season. He spent last season between the Miami Dolphins and the Bucs.
Holland originally signed with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent from Purdue. As a Boilermaker he racked up 324 career tackles, 23.5 of which were for loss, 5.5 sacks, and two interceptions. He steps into a somewhat depleted linebacking core that has had another linebacker/special-teamer Nate Stupar out this week due to an injury.
