Due to a slew of injuries at the wide receiver position, the San Francisco 49ers have invited both Austin Collie and Laurent Robinson to work out with the team.
Austin Collie just had a workout with the team on June 13, when he did it for scouts and coaches. Collie continues to recover from a torn patella tendon that kept him out of the Indianapolis Colts’ lineup for almost the whole season.
In fact, he only played in one game. He also has a history of concussions, something which the 49ers will want to be wary of. Overall, he has only played in 26 games over the last three seasons.
Robinson also has a history of concussions and actually suffered one last year as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars. He had a very lackluster performance as he played in seven games but caught just 24 passes for 252 yards.
While Robinson would be the bigger target, it is probably Collie who fits the team best considering there are looking for a slot receiver. Vernon Davis seems to be getting quite a few of the reps there lately on offense, so obviously the coaching staff knows there is a hole to fill.
It seemed like if A.J. Jenkins could step up, the job would be his, but so far he has not. The injury bug has bitten him, too, so that is also part of the issue.
