Bay Area Buzz 7/25: Giants Crushed Again, A's Power Past Astros, Can Cousins and Malone Gel?

Giants Get 15 Hits, Still Crushed by Reds

The Giants are scheduled to visit the White House on Monday so President Obama can honor the 2012 World Series champions. If the commander in chief gets ahold of any recent Giants game tapes, he might phone Vice President Biden and say, “YOU do it.”

With Wednesday night’s 8-3 loss, which mercifully ended their season series with the far superior Cincinnati Reds, the Giants extended a run of mediocrity and ineptitude that has lasted more than 60 games.

That’s two months with the worst record in the majors, leaving them a season-worst 7 ½ games out of first place with three teams ahead of them.

A’s Power Past Astros

It turns out that the Houston Astros are a Major League team after all. They looked like kind of a joke in their first couple of series against Oakland, but they essentially played the A’s to a dead heat this week. Fortunately, Oakland was able to hang on for the series win today thanks to some unlikely power sources.

Can DeMarcus Cousins and His Fiery Coach Coexist?

Malone might be a first-time head coach, but he has earned tremendous respect around the league for his ability to improve teams defensively in Cleveland, New Orleans and Golden State while often acting as more of an associate head coach than he did a lead assistant. Yet like Cousins, he is also known as a fiery type, a coach who suffers no fools and is hardly afraid of the sort of confrontations that Cousins has so often been a part of in his short career.
