Brian Wilson’s name has begun to resurface in the news, as the bearded free agent reliever is showcasing himself to teams that are interested.

One of those teams is his former employer: the San Francisco Giants.

On Monday, Wilson threw in San Francisco under the watchful eyes of Giants pitching coach Dave Righetti.

“We want to keep in touch with his progress,” Giants vice president Bobby Evans told CSN Bay Area. “He’s a Giant through and through. So we want to stay involved.”

He is planning to have an official “showcase” in Los Angeles on Thursday, and Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports that the Philadelphia Phillies, along with other teams, will be present.

Wilson is coming off of Tommy John surgery that cost him all but two games of the 2012 season. He was not re-signed by the Giants last offseason and has not been picked up by any team since.

A three-time All-Star, Wilson recorded 170 saves in four full seasons as the Giants’ closer. In his absence, Sergio Romo has taken over that role for the Giants and has become one of the best in the league. He has 23 saves and a 2.95 ERA thus far this season.

However, there’s no denying that a guy like Wilson could immediately help a struggling and depleted Giants bullpen.
