The injuries kept piling on for the San Francisco Giants on Saturday night, as Jeremy Affeldt left the game in the sixth inning with a left groin strain.
As Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area notes below, it’s likely that Affeldt is headed to the DL.
Bochy said Affeldt is getting an MRI. Sounds resigned he’ll go to the DL. “That’s a dangerous area.”

Affedlt immediately grimaced following a pitch in the sixth inning. He limped around for a few moments and was taken out of the game.
The injury comes at a bad time for Affeldt, who has been struggling in recent weeks. Since June 7, he has a 5.93 ERA in 13.2 innings (16 games).
Affeldt wasn’t the only Giants reliever on injury alert Saturday. Sandy Rosario’s fourth finger was clipped by a sharply hit ground ball headed towards center field, but he stayed in the game. Additionally Sergio Romo was thought to be hit by a line drive, but it was his glove that deflected the ball from hitting his knee.
If Affeldt is placed on the DL, Jean Machi seems like the obvious candiate to be called up.
