Colin Kaepernick’s legacy is building. The catch: the regular season is still more than a month from beginning.
After winning an ESPY for “Best Breakthrough Athlete on Wednesday, two jersey outlets (NFL.com and Fanatics.com) reported that Kaepernick has the NFL’s best-selling jersey.
Kaepernick’s number 7 jersey was the top seller at NFLShop.com from April 1 through June 30, according to the league’s Joanna Hunter. The 25-year old star is also No. 1 at Fanatics.com, said the online retailer’s Meier Raivich.
Perhaps Kaepernick’s top jersey selection was a bit of a surprise. Robert Griffin III, who finished third, would seem like a popular pick, as would Adrian Peterson (fourth) or Peyton Manning (fifth). But it was Kaepernick who took home the honors.
Bob Dorfman of Pickett Advertising put it perfectly:
He’s a character with the tattoos and ‘Kaepernicking, said Bob Dorfman of Pickett Advertising in San Francisco. But can he prove he’s not a fluke?
Kaepernick has played in a grand total of 16 regular season games, but he has started in just seven of them. Of course he’s already had playoff experience too–an impressive three playoff showings, may I add.
Time will only tell how Kaepernick builds on his 2012-13 season, though.
