Former San Francisco Giants closer Brian Wilson was reportedly spotted pitching at the University of San Francisco on Friday, and he could start auditioning for scouts in early August, but he won’t be ready to pitch for at least six more weeks.
ESPN the Magazine has the news:
Ex-Giant Brian Wilson seen throwing in San Fran. Teams are being told his arm feels great, but the beard won’t be ready for six more weeks.

I take that the six weeks is the timetable for when he will be ready to pitch in a game, because he’s already been throwing the ball around. Obviously throwing in private and pitching in front of 40,000 fans is much different.
Six weeks, give or take a few days, would mean a September return–maybe not to the major leagues, but to some level of professional, Of course that’s all dependent on what type of market takes shape for Wilson and whether a team would be willing to take a flyer on him.
And all of that depends on his performances when he auditions for scouts in a few weeks. If he fails to do that, you can most likely count out the return of the beard in 2013.
Speaking of scouts…the Giants are one of the teams expected to be in attendance Wilson’s showcase, according to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle.
