Ahmad Brooks’ assault case threatened to break up the San Francisco 49ers dominant linebacker group, but the group will remain intact.
According to NFL.com‘s Gregg Rosenthal, Brooks won’t be charged with assault. Brooks allegedly hit teammate Lamar Divens on the head three times with a beer bottle over a car keys dispute, and that happened after the two went out on the night of June 8.
The article stated that Divens was believed to be trying to gain from the incident financially, and that was a major reason why Brooks wasn’t charged. Divens asked for $1 million two days after the incident, and Brooks denied the request.
This wasn’t the first altercation between the two, as Divens pushed Brooks at a May party and caused a gash in Brooks’ leg. The police weren’t called, but they came into play in this investigation.
Brooks, who was dismissed from his college team for troubles off the field, hasn’t run into much trouble in the NFL. This incident threatened to change that, but Brooks will instead walk away without any jail time.
And, in addition, he will likely walk away without missing any playing time.
