San Francisco Giants Make Four Moves

The San Francisco Giants are reeling and sitting in the National League West cellar at 40-48. In addition, they’re probably pretty tired too after playing a five-hour marathon last night that ended close to 1:00 AM PDT this morning.

Managament’s reaction: four roster moves.

Cole Gillespie, who went 0-for-9 in his first few big league at-bats, was designated for assignment. He will be replaced with Kensuke Tanaka. Tanaka was hitting 330/.392/.394 in Fresno after struggling mightily in spring training. He will bat second and play left field Tuesday.

Elsewhere, Hector Sanchez went on the DL with a right shoulder strain. Sanchez has been dealing with a bum right shoulder since Spring Training, and it’s clearly had an effect on his throwing. His hitting hasn’t lacked too, as his .562 OPS is hardly considered mediocre.

And lastly, Mike Kickham was recalled. After Monday night’s marathon, his ability to eat up three or four innings could come in handy over the next couple days.
