We’re in the dog days of summer, and football fans are dying for anything to talk about.
So when San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was seen wearing a Miami Dolphins hat, it set up the perfect storm, as social media was abuzz about the up-and-coming star.
Here is a picture of Kaepernick celebrating Fourth of July at the beach, sporting a Dolphins cap:
Criticism was abundant after the photos were released, with people castigating him for wearing the colors of a different team.
But should we really care? Are we this bored?
Here are some reasons for both sides:
Why We Should Care
It’s obvious why people are upset. Kaepernick is the quarterback of the 49ers, not the Dolphins. So why isn’t he wearing a 49ers hat?
It would be different if he was seen sporting colors of the Miami Heat or Miami Marlins, because he doesn’t play those sports. But he plays in the NFL, and competes against the Dolphins, so there is no excuse for him to do this.
I mean, imagine if Buster Posey was wearing a Dodgers hat.
Why We Shouldn’t Care
It’s a freakin’ hat.
It’s not like he’s publicly voicing his support for the Dolphins, or looking to force a trade to play in Miami.
He was simply in Miami over the Fourth of July holiday, and wore a hat that represented the city of Miami.
This the hat y’all mad at? I’m goin wear what I want regardless of what you think, all you need to worry about is the fact that I grind for my teammates and the 49ers! I plan on doin this until they won’t let me in the building! #ridiculous#y‘allmustbebored
Seriously. Ya’ll really must be bored.
