I bet you could come up with a thousand adjectives to describe the Dwight Howard saga.
Ridiculous. Unnecessary. Insane. Frustrated. Overhyped. Stupid.
What we’ve gone through in the past few days regarding Howard is enough drama to last a year.
First, he met with five teams, and that process was drama-packed in its own right. Then, he took a few days off in Colorado while the rest of the country sat on the edge of their seats.
The Rockets and Lakers were considered to be the heavy favorites, but then the Warriors made a late push, signing Andre Iguodala and pursuing Howard.
Spurning that idea, Howard then chose the Rockets on Friday afternoon, and it was all over.
But wait. Howard decided that he would fly down to Los Angeles, building speculation that he was reconsidering his decision. Nope, he was actually just traveling to tell the Lakers’ brass in person that he would not be returning next season.
So when it’s said and done, in one of the most craziest free agent pursuits in history, Dwight Howard is the newest member of the Houston Rockets.
Which makes us wonder: how does compare to LeBron James’ infamous “decision” in the summer of 2010, when he visited numerous teams and announced his free agent decision on national television. That entire process was a disaster from start to finish — from the ESPN special to the backlash he received for leaving Cleveland.
