The last place San Francisco Giants will have at least three representatives at the 2013 MLB All-Star Game, while the first place Oakland Athletics will only have one.
That doesn’t seem very fair.
But anyway, Buster Posey, Marco Scutaro and Madison Bumgarner were named to the NL All-Star team on Sunday afternoon, and will represent the Giants in the All-Star Game at Citi Field on July 16.
It will be the second consecutive All-Star game appearance for Posey, as he was voted in as the starter last season. This year, he will be a reserve, backing up the Cardinals’ Yadier Molina at catcher. Posey is hitting .310 with 12 home runs and 48 RBI through 81 games.
The 37-year-old Scutaro will be making his first appearance at the Midsummer Classic, which is quite an accomplishment. He is hitting a cool .313 this season, picking up right where he left off from his 2012 campaign.
Bumgarner will also be heading to Citi Field. The southpaw is 8-5 with a 3.08 ERA this season, and has been the Giants’ only consistent starting pitcher.
Also, outfielder Hunter Pence will be one of five players chosen to be in the NL Final Vote, but it will be a tough task for him because he will be competing with fan-favorite Yasiel Puig.
