A few years ago, Gilbert Arenas was one of the best point guards in the NBA. Now, his career is spiraling down the drain and his name is appearing in the news for all the wrong reasons.
Arenas was arrested on Thursday morning for possession of illegal fireworks…a ton of illegal fireworks. He was released without bail after being booked for a misdemeanor.
Here is video of the arrest:
According to TMZ.com, Arenas was pulled over for speeding in a Ford pickup truck, but police officers “immediately saw that the truck was filled with fireworks, sitting in plain sight in the bed and cab of the truck.”
The truck reportedly contained 100 pounds of fireworks, and a bomb squad was called in to handle “around 20 boxes”, very carefully.
Arenas, an 11-year NBA veteran, began his career with the Golden State Warriors and won the Most Improved Player award in his second season, averaging 18.3 points per game.
He would sign a free agent deal with the Washington Wizards, and developed into a star. Arenas made the All-Star team from 2005-2007, averaging 27.7 points per game during that span.
However, his downfall came during the 2009-2010 campaign, when he was caught for possessing firearms in the Wizards locker room. He was suspended for the rest of the season, and sentenced to two years probation.
Arenas is currently playing for the Shanghai Sharks in the CBA.
