Cain Looks to Emulate Last Start Against Padres

Jun 17, 2013; San Francisco, CA, USA; The San Francisco Giants infield meet with San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy (15) at the mound during the thirteenth inning at AT&T Park.

After two heartbreaking losses in three games, the San Francisco Giants are in fourth place.

Sure, the Giants are only 1.5 games behind the first-place Arizona Diamondbacks. However, the red-hot San Diego Padres took over third place last night by beating the Giants in a thriller, one that marked the Giants’ seventh loss in 11 games. San Francisco is slumping, and it needs a win.

To do that, the Giants will need to beat the Padres. Cain has a 4.70 ERA, but he’s dominated in his last two starts. Cain shut out the Pittsburgh Pirates over 6.2 innings in his last start, and he’s looking to duplicate that outing against Andrew Cashner and the Padres.

The Padres have won seven straight games, and they got lucky to win yesterday’s game. Will Venable made an outstanding catch, and the Padres shelled Jose Mijares in a 5-3 extra-inning win. Cashner did well in his last start against the Giants, and he’s capable of giving the Padres their eighth straight win.

Can the Padres win their eighth straight? Find out when first pitch is thrown at 7:15 PM PST, and stay tuned for complete postgame coverage.
