The Oakland Raiders have inked their “pissed off” third-round draft pick Sio Moore to a rookie contract worth $3 million, with a $690,832 signing bonus, according to Adrian Wilson of the Baltimore Sun.
After having to wait until the third round to be drafted in April, the outside linebacker let off some steam to the media.
“The Raiders are getting a pissed-off linebacker,” said Moore. “No one will outwork me.”
“There’s going to be one team that’s going to fall in love and make the right pick and there’s going to be 31 other teams that are going to be pissed off,” he continued. “The Oakland Raiders got the best linebacker in the draft, I don’t care who went before.”
Last season Moore earned All-Big East first-team honors, recording 72 tackles, 7.5 sacks, and 11 pass breakups for the UConn Huskies.
“Disciplined linebacker who follows through on his assignments and maintains his gap responsibilities prevent cutbacks,” says NFL.com’s scouting report. “Also a solid tackler, able to break down and securely wrap the ballcarrier’s torso or leg for minimal yards after the catch.”
Reports out of minicamp suggest that Moore “appears to be in line for a starting outside linebacker position,” so it looks like he will get a good chance to prove those bold statements.
The Raiders are looking for the next guy to take over their defense, so perhaps the “best linebacker in the draft” will lead them to glory.
