Instead, his career may be spiraling down the drain as we speak.
Goodson was arrested last Friday morning for possession of drugs and weapons after police found him in his car with a gun and ammunition. He and a companion were both intoxicated as they were arrested.
On Wednesday, Goodson pled not guilty to the charges at his arraignment in New Jersey.
His attorney, Tony Fusco, says that he was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
“He was out partying. He was drunk, there’s no question about that,” Fusco told USA Today. “But he wasn’t driving, and the gun and drugs did not belong to him.”
Goodson was so drunk that he had to be taken to the emergency room in the hospital. He remains in custody at the moment.
In 12 games last season for the Raiders, Goodson recorded 221 yards on 35 carries, filling in quite nicely for the oft-injured Darren McFadden whenever needed.
However, he was released in the offseason and signed a three-year, $6.9 million deal with the Jets, where he was expected to play a big role next season.
Obviously, this was not how he planned to make his first impression on the Jets’ fanbase.
