Couture Saves the Day as Sharks Beat Kings in Crucial Game 3

Logan Couture channeled his inner Willis Reed on Saturday night, returning from injury to score the overtime winner for the San Jose Sharks and claw his team back into the series, now down 2-1 to the Los Angeles Kings.

Couture roofed a shot from close range on a power play in the first extra session after they failed to convert on a lengthy 5-on-3 opportunity. The Sharks continued to put pressure in the Kings zone, however, and the puck wound up in the back of the net off Couture’s stick.

The night did not start off well for the Couture, as he fell awkwardly into the boards on in the second period. He left for the dressing room, but returned later in the period to a loud ovation by the home crowd.

The Sharks started things off with a bang. After a delay of game penalty was called on the Kings’ Jake Muzzin, Dan Boyle ripped a one-timer past Jonathan Quick just four seconds into the power play to give San Jose a 1-0 lead.

However, they would give it right back. Ten minutes later, a horrid giveaway by Brad Stuart in his own zone led to a backhand goal by Tyler Toffoli to knot things up.

The Sharks dominated much of the second and third period, outshooting the Kings 24-16. Chance after chance was thwarted by Jonathan Quick, who made 38 saves in another phenomenal playoff performance.

On this night, the Sharks’ relentless efforts paid off as they finally beat Quick and the Kings.
