Golden State Warriors Pick Up Mark Jackson's Contract for 2014-2015

Mark Jackson will be the head coach of the Golden State Warriors for at least the next two seasons.

According to Rusty Simmons of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Warriors will exercise Jackson’s contract for the 2014-2015 season.

Simmons also reports that management is “confident” that they will sign Jackson to a long-term deal.

In just a few short seasons, Jackson has turned the Warriors from perennial bottom-feeders in the Western Conference to a playoff team that took the Spurs to six games in the second round.

Doubts were surely raised after Jackson’s first season in 2011-2012, when the Warriors struggled and even “tanked” in the late stages in order to retain their draft pick. However, he has managed to unite the team and build chemistry and rapport that is second to none in the NBA.

Read these quotes from Andrew Bogut on the Warriors’ head coach, via the San Jose Mercury News:

Coach Jackson, he’s a pastor. He preaches. He’s a very well-spoken individual. The pep talks before games are sensational. He gets us riled up the right way.

I’ve never had a head coach sit down at the lunch table after practice and sit there for hours, talking to different guys. It’s unbelievable. For him to come in, it shocked me when I first got here. He’s talking for three, four hours to different guys, laughing, joking. He’s a great person.

Whatever he did to bring the Warriors together, it clearly has worked. From the way it looks, Jackson will be the head coach of the Warriors for a long time to come.
