The Oakland Raiders have made an “initial offer” to free agent cornerback Charles Woodson, according to Josina Anderson of ESPN.

In an interview with the NFL Network (via CSN Bay Area), Woodson acknowledged that he would be willing to play for a rebuilding team, which is the current description of the Raiders’ franchise.

“When this process first started out, that was my thing — I needed to go to a contender,” Woodson said. “I know I am towards the end of my career. At this point, I want to play football. So if it is a rebuilding stage, at this point if that is the circumstances I have to play under, then that is what I am going to do.”

Woodson ruled out signing with the 49ers in the same interview, and seemed to be lowering himself in an effort to pique a team’s interest.

“Myself, I am just a ballplayer,” he said. “I need to be on a team.”

A 14-year veteran, Woodson was drafted by the Raiders and spent eight seasons in Oakland before moving on to Green Bay. He was the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year in 1998.He has received numerous accolades throughout his career as an eight-time Pro Bowler, seven-time All-Pro member, and Super Bowl champion. Woodson was also the AP Defensive Player of the Year in 2009.Woodson’s productivity has declined in recent seasons, however. He appeared in just seven games last, recording 25 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and one interception.Woodson was released by the Packers earlier this offseason.

Come on back Woodson ! Come back & retire a Raider. It would be a fitting end to a great career.

Hell yes! I’d bust out my old Woodson Starting Lineup figure if he signs. Besides, he looks good in Silver and Black
