So long, Candlestick Park. It’s all about Levi’s Stadium after next season.
San Francisco jeans-maker Levi Strauss & Co. has been given naming rights to the San Francisco 49ers’ new stadium in Santa Clara in a 20 year, $220 million deal, with an option to extend the deal another five years for around $75 million, according to the San Jose Mercury News.
According to the report:
Levi Strauss will be promised four huge signs around the stadium, a pair of 50-yard-line luxury suites, 52 club seats, access to host four events per year at the stadium and plenty of extra perks that come with joining the family of an NFL team. Most notably, the company can even tap star players such as quarterback Colin Kaepernick to woo customers and have coach Jim Harbaugh come in to pump up employees.
Founded in 1873 in San Francisco, Levi Strauss is credited for being the first company to manufacture blue jeans.
“Forty-niners have worn Levi’s jeans since the Gold Rush,” said owner Jed York. “We are so honored to have the perfect partner for the premier outdoor sports and entertainment venue in the world.”
The new stadium will hold 68,500 people and the latest, state-of-the-art advances in Silicon Valley.
Along with a green roof, it will feature “stadium-wide WiFi capability, mobile connectivity, IPTV, and colossal HD video boards measuring over 13,000 square feet, no one will miss a minute of the action,” according to the stadium’s official website.
Having driven past the new stadium many a times and seen the structure go up slowly but surely, it’s hard to believe that construction began just over a year ago, yet 49ers’ football will be played at Levi’s Stadium starting in 2014.
