A's Go For 2nd Sweep of The Season Over Angels: Game Preview

The Oakland Athletics will take the field this afternoon looking for their second sweep of the season over the Los Angeles Angels, and the division rivals are probably wondering what they have to do to rebound from the worst start in franchise history.

Mike Sciocia’s club will be looking for a fresh start on the first of May, and it’ll be a battle of left-handers on the mound as C.J. Wilson matches up with Tommy Milone Wednesday afternoon. Wilson recovered from a three-run first inning his last time out against the Athletics to strike out seven and allow only three hits over the next five innings, but Oakland went on to win the game 9-5.

Milone has been outstanding at the Coliseum this year, posting a 1.77 ERA at home as opposed to a 6.17 ERA in two starts on the road. The 26-year-old went 6.2 innings against Baltimore in his previous start and allowed only six hits and one unearned run while striking out five and walking only one Orioles batter.

The A’s have outscored the Angels 48-25 in the five games they’ve played against each other in 2013, and a lot of that production can be attributed to Yoenis Cespedes, who had a double and a triple with four RBIs in last night’s 10-6 win. Seth Smith has also heated up at the plate, and his three-run double off of Nick Maronde in the sixth last night secured the victory for an Oakland team that has now won three games in a row after losing eight of 10 before the streak.

Oakland announced today that Coco Crisp (strained left hamstring) and Brett Anderson (sprained right ankle) have been placed on the 15-day disabled list. Dan Straily and backup catcher Luke Montz will take their places on the roster, with Montz getting his first start of the season today as the designated hitter.

Game time is set for 12:35 PST.
