The San Francisco 49ers added depth at defensive end when they picked Tank Carradine in the second round. Now, they have more depth on the defensive line.
San Francisco used its fifth round selection on Quinton Dial, a defensive end from Alabama who recorded 1.5 sacks and five tackles for loss in 2012. Dial registered 2.5 sacks over his career, so he isn’t a huge difference-maker, but he is 6’6″ and weighs 304 pounds.
With Carradine and Corey Lemonier being picked already and the 49ers appearing to be set on defense, this is an insurance pick for depth. It’s not likely to turn into anything big for the 49ers, but it’s a nice pick for a team that has been focusing on defensive depth.
