A's Go For Series Win Against Lester, Red Sox: Game Preview

Brett Anderson will try to shake off a sprained ankle and get back on track this afternoon, and the Oakland Athletics will go for the series win against Jon Lester and the Boston Red Sox. Game time is 1:05 PST.

Anderson has allowed 12 hits and 11 earned runs over his last two starts, and he lasted one inning in Tampa Bay before sustaining the injury and leaving the game. Conditions should be better at Fenway Park than they were Tuesday night when the game was called in the eighth inning on account of rain, and the forecast calls for clear skies and temperatures in the mid 60’s.

Oakland will likely have a tougher time scoring than they did last night, as Lester has only allowed five earned runs through four starts. The Red Sox won all four of those games, with the left-hander going seven innings in every game except the season opener against the New York Yankees, when he pitched five frames with seven strikeouts and two walks.

Josh Reddick has the day off after going 4-for-8 with two RBI and two doubles in the first two games of the series. Chris Young will get the start in right field in his place. Nate Freiman will bat eighth as the designated hitter, getting his second start of the series against his hometown team.

The A’s will return to the Bay Area following today’s game to face the Baltimore Orioles in a four-game series through the weekend at O.Co Coliseum.
