The San Jose Sharks secured a spot in the postseason for the ninth consecutive season with a 3-2 thrilling victory over the Stars on Tuesday night.
Down by a goal with under six minutes remaining in regulation, Joe Pavelski tipped in a shot from Brad Stuart to tie the game, and 30 seconds later, Logan Couture cleaned up a rebound in front for the eventual game-winning goal.
The Sharks bombarded Kari Lehtonen and the Stars with shots all game long, out shooting them 37-26.
However, it was the Stars that took a 2-1 lead to begin the second period after Loui Eriksson scored his 12th goal of the year on a power play just 17 seconds in.
Raffi Torres started the scoring with a nice backhand finish in the first, only to see Antoine Russell tie it back up for the Stars a few minutes later.
The Sharks finish the season with road games at Phoenix and Los Angeles before starting the postseason. They are currently sitting in the fifth seed in the Western Conference, but are tied with the Kings with 57 points. Since the Kings own the tiebreaker, the final game of the season becomes crucial for home-ice advantage.
