The Oakland A’s have sent outfielder Yoenis Cespedes to the 15-day disabled list with a strained muscle on his left hand, the team announced.
Cespedes suffered the injury on Friday night’s game against the Tigers when he went into an awkward slide. He was able to stay in the game afterwards, and an MRI revealed no tears.
Coming off of a stellar rookie campaign, Cespedes was hitting .200 with three home runs in 11 games for the A’s this season.
The A’s are also dealing with an injury to Coco Crisp, who is day-to-day with a left groin strain.
To fill the void in the outfield, Oakland recalled Michael Taylor from Triple A Sacramento. Chris Young will likely start in place of Cespedes, showing how having depth pays off.
