San Diego Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin’s decision to charge the mound after being hit by a pitch from the Dodgers Zack Greinke was a poor reaction, and simply uncalled for. It ignited a massive melee at Petco Park, with both dugouts and bullpens clearing (twice):
Greinke and the rest of the Dodgers called out Quentin after the game, claiming that there was no way they hit him intentionally.
However, the Dodgers aren’t the only players with something against Quentin. It turns out the Giants’ Ryan Vogelsong has had some beef with the Padres’ slugger as well, stemming from a game in August of last year when he hit Quentin, and wasn’t too happy about it.
“The guy hammers balls over the plate and then gets pissed when you throw them inside,” Vogelsong said at the time. “Doesn’t make sense..Every time you hit a guy in this game, they think you did it on purpose. It’s tired.”
One thing’s for certain: Quentin isn’t the most respected player in the game, and it should be interesting to see how he is approached by pitchers in the future.
