Anthony Davis entered the NFL as a highly talented prospect with a considerable amount of character concerns, leading some to doubt his longevity in the league.
But with news of his lucrative contract extension, the 49ers’ stud right tackle is now taking aim at his detractors, starting with his old college coach: Greg Schiano.
After signing his five-year, $37.5 million deal on Friday, Davis called out Schiano on Twitter, reminding the current Buccaneers head coach that he once thought Davis would be a “1 contract and done kinda guy in the NFL.”
He’s since removed the tweet, but not before NFL.com grabbed a screenshot.
Schiano coached Davis for three years at Rutgers, where the 6-foot-5, 323 pound tackle earned All-Big East honors before declaring for the 2010 draft. The Niners selected him with the eleventh overall pick, and he’s since grown into an elite lineman.
If Schiano indeed told Davis he’d never land a second contract … well, it’s fair to say the 23-year-old got the last laugh.
