A’s Acquire Catcher Stephen Vogt from Rays

The Oakland A’s have acquired catcher Stephen Vogt from the Tampa Bay Rays for a player-to-be-named-later or cash considerations, the team announced.

In 18 games last season with the Rays, Vogt did not record a hit in 25 at-bats. In spring training this year, he hit .296 with a home run in 16 games.

Vogt may be listed as a catcher, but he is versatile, able to play first base, left field, and right field as well. He will report to Triple A Sacramento

In an unrelated move, the A’s designated the recently acquired RHP Dan Ortero for assignment.
