A's Go For First Win of Season as Milone Takes On Mariners: Game Preview

Left-hander Tommy Milone will take the hill Wednesday night in Oakland as the A’s look to put two forgettable games behind them when they take on the Seattle Mariners at 7:05 PST.  They’ll face Joe Saunders, who will get his first start with the Seattle Mariners after coming over in the offfseason from the Baltimore Orioles.

Milone enjoyed a stellar rookie season last year, going 13-10 with a 3.74 ERA while serving as the A’s number two starter down the stretch of the season and helping to guide them to an AL West division title and a playoff berth against the Detroit Tigers.  He’ll face a revitalized Seattle offense which scored seven runs in yesterday’s game, led by two home runs from right fielder Michael Morse.

Oakland will have some new faces in the lineup, as outfielder Chris Young and first basemen Nate Freiman are expected to make their debut with the Athletics.  Catcher Derek Norris and second basemen Scott Sizemore are also expected to be in the lineup after John Jaso and Eric Sogard started at those positions in the first two games of the series.  Sizemore is making his first start since 2011 after missing all of last season with a torn ACL in his left knee.  We’ll have the lineups posted here as soon as it’s made official.

The Athletics are in dire need of offense, as they’ve only accumulated six hits and one run so far this season.  The terrible numbers are surely a byproduct of facing Felix Hernandez on Opening Day, but after last night’s poor showing against Hisashi Iwakuma, they’ll be eager to make some noise early at the plate.

Join us here after the game as we’ll have all the details on the third game of this four-game series.
